Mississippi Casinos Close or Cut Services Due to Threatening Winter Storm
Snow, ice, and cold weather forced multiple Mississippi gaming venues to close on Tuesday. A few decided to stay open but reduced certain services.
Biloxi, Mississippi. The Sun Herald news source and multiple social media platforms are reporting on the closures occurring at casinos in Mississippi:
- The gaming floor and restaurants at Biloxi’s Palace Casino Resort are shut down on Tuesday, which includes slots, table games, and the sportsbook. The hotel stays open.
- The Scarlet Pearl Casino in D’Iberville shut down its gaming floor, hotel, and restaurants at midnight on Monday and stays closed on Tuesday. It could resume by midday on Wednesday.
- The poker room and restaurants at Boomtown Biloxi are shut down on Tuesday. BT Grill is set to reopen at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, while additional restaurants at the gaming venue will resume service on Thursday.
- The Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast Celebrity Grill in St. Louis is open on Tuesday, while the other restaurants remain closed. The poker room is closed on Tuesday. The golf course will be closed on Tuesday and is set to reopen at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
- IP Casino Resort in Biloxi will operate with “limited venues” available on Tuesday, as stated in a Facebook update.
- On Tuesday, the Jubilee Buffet, table games, and gift shop at St. Louis' Silver Slipper Casino were shut down. Table games will restart at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jubilee Buffet will restart serving at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
- Treasure Bay Casino in Biloxi shut down the Infinity Buffet at 10 p.m. on Monday and will stay closed on Tuesday. It will start again at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Den/Blu are currently closed and will resume operations at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Weather Deteriorating
As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, a winter storm warning had been issued for all of Southern Mississippi from Tuesday night until Wednesday morning, as reported by Mississippi TV station WLOX.
Snow is still falling, and by late Tuesday, the total accumulation is anticipated to be between three and six inches. Temperatures will fall into the teens and 20s. Wind chill values will range from the teens to even the single digits until Wednesday.
On Tuesday morning, reports indicated that the area experienced rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snowfall.
Driving may remain challenging due to slick conditions on the roads. Bridges and overpasses can be especially dangerous. Wednesday morning may experience the toughest driving conditions.
Emergency Declaration
In reaction to the hazardous winter conditions, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves (R) announced a state of emergency lasting until Wednesday.
